SCS Achieves Mutual Recognition Agreement with The International EPD® System

SCS Global Services (SCS) is pleased to announce that it has reached a Mutual Recognition Agreement (MRA) with The International EPD^® System, allowing for cross-recognition of Environmental Product Declarations (EPD) and showcasing the alignment of both EPD Programs. An independent review was conducted to assess the levels of similarities in processes, standards, quality, and use of life cycle assessment methodology, and it was concluded that both programs operate parallel to each other with respect to specific EPD and Product Category Rule (PCR) development. The scope of the agreement covers building and construction products based on EN 15804 and ISO 21930 standards, and may expand to additional product categories over time.

“We are excited about this partnership. The MRA establishes the cross recognition of EPDs from these two quality Programs and gives clients the ability to register their EPDs in both. SCS registered EPDs will now be recognized in the European market while EPDs registered with the International EPD System will be recognized in the North American market,” said Stanley Mathuram, Vice President Sales and Marketing, SCS Global Services.

This agreement further enables both programs to support manufacturers in competing successfully in global markets while communicating their commitment to the transparency of their products and environmental impacts.
